Suji is distributed through the App Store, where Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement applies. The terms below supplement it with what is specific to this app.
Licence
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app. Reverse engineering, resale, and bulk extraction of the bundled reference content are not permitted.
Your account
An account exists so that your progress survives a lost device and so that a teacher you connect to can see the work you share. You can delete it from inside the app; deletion removes your rows on the backend and wipes the local database.
Accounts used to abuse the service or other people may be suspended.
What you create
Your study sets, notes, handwriting, messages and uploads stay yours. You grant only what is needed to run the service: storing that material, syncing it between your devices, and showing it to a teacher you have connected to.
Teachers and students
A teacher and a student agree between themselves what they are doing and on what terms. The app carries the lessons, the homework and the messages; it is not a party to that arrangement, does not vet anyone, and takes no position on what is owed between them.
Access is limited by the connection: a teacher sees the progress and submissions of their own students and nothing else.
Material you bring in
You can import from a photo, a PDF, an Anki deck, pasted text or a link. What you import is your responsibility — that includes having the right to use it. Imported material is processed to make study sets and exercises, and it is treated as your content, not as part of the app’s reference library.
AI features
Some explanations, corrections and conversation practice come from a language model. They are study aids, not authority. A model can be confidently wrong, and the bundled dictionary and grammar reference are the sources to check against.
No warranty
The app is provided as is. It does not guarantee that you will pass any examination, and it does not replace a teacher or an official course. To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for loss arising from its use.
Sources and attribution
The reference content is assembled from open datasets, and their licences require that they be named.
Dictionaries and characters. JMdict, JMnedict and KANJIDIC2 come from the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group and are used under CC BY-SA. Stroke-order data is KanjiVG, also CC BY-SA. Example sentences come from Tatoeba under CC BY.
Software. Japanese text is segmented with Sudachi, licensed under Apache 2.0. Spaced repetition uses FSRS, an open scheduler.
The app’s licence screen carries the full list, including the component, radical, pitch-accent and JLPT datasets, and states which material was generated rather than sourced.
